Calling all poets, ocean lovers, and storytellers 🌊✍️✨ Join us for Write the Seas, a special ocean-inspired poetry workshop led by Kalilinoe Detwiler and presented by the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program, Symphony of the Hawaiʻi Seas, and Capitol Modern. Celebrate our deep connection to the ocean through poetry, reflection, and creativity. The afternoon will feature live readings by former Hawaiʻi State Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall and emerging poet Hope Matsumoto, followed by a hands-on opportunity for parents and ʻōpio (youth) to co-create postcard poems dedicated to their favorite beaches and coastal places. Participants will also have the opportunity to record their poems for an upcoming community poetry film and receive free ocean-themed poetry books courtesy of the Maoli Verse project (while supplies last). Come ready to listen, write, and share your voice. 💙 🎟️ Free admission 📅 Saturday, July 11, 2026, 1:00–3:00 PM 📍 Capitol Modern is the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum #CapitolModern #SymphonyOfTheHawaiiSeas #WriteTheSeas #PoetryWorkshop #Poetry Promotional graphic for Write the Seas, an ocean-inspired poetry workshop at Capitol Modern.
